Killer Hill

The Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay is June 15 & 16 - two weeks away. Today a few friends headed up to do Leg 34 "Ragnar" for a training day....it was a killer hill above Midway. I ran as much as I could but sped walked a good portion. Funny thing is...I stayed right with two of my friends who did jog the whole time. My walk was the same pace as their jog. It was that steep! When we got to the next exchange we turned around and enjoyed the downhill. My half marathon next weekend is downhill so I needed this part of the training. Great day to be outside running!

We had five different W.B.Ragnar teams at this training run. Thanks Natalie for planning it.

Phillip Phillips

I didn't watch much of AI this season but when I did I loved Phillip Phillips. He deserved to win. He is talented!

Wind, Rain, Hills, 11 miles = great run

Today my run was good! Not too hot (rain helped with that), not too cold, and the wind helped me up the hill. I had a tail wind going up 9400 S 4 miles. I turned at 4 miles and came down and around to make 11 miles happen. The power was out so crossing traffic was a bit unnerving but overall...felt great!

16 weeks til 26.2

I saw this on Pinterest and had to post it to get me pumped up for the next 16 weeks of training!!!

On June 9, 2012 I will be running the Utah Valley Half Marathon. I followed a very similar training as the training pictured above. I don't run on Sundays so I pushed my longer runs on Saturday and had a rest day before and after. It has treated me just right.
As of today I have 16 weeks until the Top of Utah Marathon 26.2 miles on September 15th. This will be my first marathon. I am nervous and anxious for those longer runs. I know...I CAN DO HARD THINGS...but I hope I can increase my pace so it doesn't take me all Saturday to do my longer runs. I am currently a 10-11 minute mile average on long runs. I can do a 9-10 minute miles on shorter 3-4 mi. runs. Here's to training!!!

Goldilocks Century...check

May 12, 2012 I rode the Goldilocks Century (100 mi.) that started in Herriman.
Goldilocks is a fully supported, non-competitive, women only, cycling event. With multiple locations and route options, there is a ride for everyone! From novice or experienced riders alike, Goldilocks is a fabulous opportunity to spend the day with your girlfriends while enjoying/conquering a gorgeous ride.

(100 mile course - course map links)

My sister met me "luckily" near mile 65 and she rode the last 35 miles with me. She kept my spirits up and made the final stretch a grand experience. Love you Amy - thanks!

Garrett got distracted by the gorgeous fields. He was reenacting the Sound of Music..."THE HILLS ARE ALIVE!!!"
Here we come up Daybreak Parkway...
Amy's looking great! She should've done the whole thing with me.
"Pedal Dang It"...that is what was in my brain the last 9 miles.
Crossed the finish line 7.5 hrs. later!!!

Makell and Garrett were our SUPER FANS!!! My mom and dad of course were the SUPER SUPER FANS but shy of the camera.
Thanks for the balloons and support! Love you family!

I choose not to stop to eat lunch at mile 57. I wasn't feeling hungry nor did I want to get sick so I waited to eat after...I was so hungry by then. Of course I ate snacks along the way but I sure worked up an appetite.
If any lady is thinking about doing a bike race...20, 40, 60, 80, or 100...I would recommend this event. It was fun, organized, safe, and a good time of year. I hear the course is harder than Little Red up in Cache Valley but it sure was nice not having to travel to Logan.
I already registered for May 11, 2013 but registered for 60 miles. I could change it to 80 or 100...I'll see.

7am start time...I got up at 5:30am and was still in a daze when I started the race. I had so many butterflies and prayers in my soul...my prayers were answered....my feet, saddle, and hands survived the ride! Thank you!

Great encouragement at mile 19 - top of Camp Williams
Check out the variety at mile 43 - Fairfield City
This was a favorite treat on the trail. Oreos with peanut butter...don't mind if I do;-)

Lunch was delightful - Mile 57 - I nibbled on fruit and downed gatorade and water! The tasty food would have to wait.

race day photos

I never can justify purchasing the "in action" photos but they are fun to see how they turned out.

I registered for the 2013 race but the 60 mile course. Who knows...as it gets closer I might want to do the full century again. I've got a year to stew on the idea:-) I would recommend this event to anyone wanting to do a road bike event...it was a party!
