Moab 1/2 done and done

Our day started out by leaving Fruita, CO at 5:30AM. We drove to Moab, UT to pick up our chip and running packet by 7:15AM. We headed to the buses to shuttle up to the canyon. It was 30 degrees in the morning so we were all covered with layers head to toe. People were dressed in garbage bags, DI sweats, and even surgery gowns. Anything to keep warm.

We arrived up top an hour early and no lie we were in line for about that long to use the restroom. It was crazy but it did pass the time. By 10AM the race began....I knew I wasn't going to keep anyone's pace so I stuck to my own rhythm and ran my own race. I kept a 12+ minute mile for most of the race. I did have to stop for one bathroom break which killed me because there were 7 women and only one portapottie. I would've used the bushes but it wasn't number one. Sorry for the details but this is mostly for me;) (Hey running does that to anyone, right?) Anyways, during the race I ran until mile 4, used the restroom, ran to mile 6, walked until mile 7, ran until 13.1 miles unless there was a water station. I let myself walk through the water stations. I felt really good during the race. My right foot went to sleep around mile 4 and changing the laces and my stride couldn't shake the feeling. I need new shoes. My favorite part of the race was the view. The tall canyon walls engulfed the road and the river ran right along the road the whole way 1-10 miles. Breathtaking!!! The last 3 miles were along the construction roads into the finish line at a park. The finish was fun because Amy came back to find me and Krehl and Amy ran to the finish line with me. I felt good. I would do a half again. I want to improve my pace and definitely get new shoes and maybe orthodics. I actually had fun and I my body is not screaming or aching right now. Some of the people were walking and limping into the finish line. The last three miles were the miles I started passing everyone. I probably saved up too much energy. Well worth it because I feel great right now...not sure what tomorrow will bring me;)

Canyonlands Moab Half Marathon
According to chip - 2:51:30
13.1 miles
According to my Garmin my average pace was 12:36/mi
I am not going to display my placing but all I can say...I did it! For my first half I am okay with my times. There's always room for improvement. My next challenge: Highline Hustle Spring Triathlon June 12, 2010. I also would like to do a bike race or a personal bike challenge - Bike 100 miles (around Bear Lake or Utah Lake).
Side note: I had bronchitis during the race. I was coughing up a lung before, during, and especially after. We went to Zak's Pizza Factory for lunch and I think everyone in there was concerned about the germs I probably was spreading by every explosive cough. I really need new lungs. I am amazed I had enough oxygen to get through the race. Mind over body!!!

One week til 1/2

I have less than a week until the Moab 1/2. I ran close to nine miles yesterday. Luckily I did my longer run Friday because it was so stormy and cold today. I can't do longer runs at the gym. I get too bored and my feet go to sleep on the treadmill (not sure how you did it Scotty). I feel ready for 13 miles but not sure if I would ever do a marathon. I respect all of you out there that can run that long.

I need to work on my girly runner technique. By the end of the race Saturday I know I will look like the farthest left runner;)

Garrett Walk On

Garrett turned one on February 9, 2010. He is a 13 months now and walking!!! He is my youngest nephew. Makell will be seven June 12, Kaison will be five March 20, Quinn turned three on December 11th, and Garrett is one since Feb. 9th. Love those kids.

Acoustic Tunig - Andrew Garcia

It is sad but lucky that there's so much talent out there and it takes American Idol to expose these great artists. Andrew Garcia is brilliant! The following clips are just a few that are on youtube. Check out his site for more: http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamAndrewGarcia

I little Idol crush

Alex Lambert

Andrew Garcia (skip to 1:05)
I haven't stayed on top of watching A.Idol but I have been viewing the itunes videos on the idol website . I love Alex and Andrew's voices. They have a unique tone and definitely two of the better singers...this season is pretty disappointing. Andrew was in the bottom three this past week...shocking. He is my favorite. I haven't been voting though. This week I will... if I am home.

I have two weeks until the Moab 1/2. I went up to the Daybreak Lake area for my Saturday run today. What a view! Made the miles worth it;)

We Are The World for Haiti

[Justin Bieber]
There comes a time
When we heed a certain call
[Nicole Scherzinger & Jennifer Hudson]
When the world must come together as one
[Jennifer Hudson]
There are people dying
[Jennifer Nettles]
And it’s time to lend a hand to life
The greatest gift of all
[Josh Groban]
We can’t go on
Pretending day by day
[Tony Bennet]
that someone, somehow will soon make a change
[Mary J Blige]
We are all a part of
God’s great big family
And the truth, you know love is all we need

[Chorus]
[Michael Jackson]
We are the world
We are the children
[Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving
[Barbra Streisand]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Miley Cyrus]
Send them your heart
So they’ll know that someone cares
[Enrique Iglesias]
so their cries for help
will not be in vain
[Nicole Scherzinger]
We can’t let them suffer
no we cannot turn away
[Jamie Foxx]
Right now they need a helping hand
[Wyclef Jean]
Nou se mond la
We are the Children
[Adam Levine]
We are the ones who make a brighter day
so lets start giving
[Pink]
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
[BeBe Winans]
It’s true we’ll make a better day
Just you and me

[Michael Jackson]
When you’re down and out
There seems no hope at all
[Usher]
But if you just believe
There’s no way we can fall
[Celine Dion]
Well, well, well, well, let us realize
That a change can only come
[Fergie]
When we stand together as one

[Chorus - All]
We are the world
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let’s start giving

[Rapping - LL Cool J, Will-I-Am, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Swizz Beatz]
We all need somebody that we can lean on
when you wake up look around and see that your dreams gone
when the earth quakes we’ll help you make it through the storm
when the floor breaks a magic carpet to stand on
we are the World united by love so strong
when the radio isn’t on you can hear the songs
a guided light on the dark road your walking on
a sign post to find the dreams you thought was gone
someone to help you move the obstacles you stumbled on
someone to help you rebuild after the rubble’s gone
we are the World connected by a common bond
Love the whole planet sing it along
[Wyclef]
CABARETT

[Chorus - All]

[Kanye West]
Everyday citizens
everybody pitching in

Groundhog's Day

Ker Than

for National Geographic News

Updated February 2, 2010

Don't pack away those winter clothes just yet: This morning famed groundhog forecaster Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, meaning winter temperatures in 2010 will continue for six more weeks—if you believe that sort of thing.
